Mobile Devices: Tablets & Phones

General Requirements

Mobile devices running the following operating systems, at minimum:

• Android 9+

• Apple iOS 13+

Tablets

AutoVitals tests numerous devices to run our mobile application; the recommended devices listed below stand out in terms of characteristics and performance.

The tablets we currently have available for purchase or lease through AutoVitals, and that we recommend are:

Accessories

Tablets purchased or leased through AutoVitals will come with a rugged case, but these cases are similar should you want to purchase on your own:

• Apple iPad Case

• Samsung Galaxy Tab 8 Case

• For devices that do NOT have a flash, we recommend using an attachable light, or headlamp to illuminate the area you are photographing.

Unsupported Devices

• Devices without a rear-facing autofocus camera are not supported

• Android devices running on versions of Android older than 9.0 are not supported.

• iOS devices running on versions older than iOS 13 are not supported

• iPads older than the Mini 5 and Air 3. These tablets are not upgradable or have poor performance on the latest version of iOS.

• Samsung Tab 2,  Tab 3, Tab 4, Tab A (2018 and prior models), and Tab E

• All Kindle Fire tablets

• All ASUS tablets

• All Windows tablets

Minimum and recommended hardware specifications are listed below:

Recommended

• CPU: 

  • Minimum Required - Core i5 processor (10th generation or later)

  • Recommended - Core i7 processor (9th generation or later)

• Memory: 16 GB

• Hard Drive: Solid State (SSD)

• Type: Desktop computer. Do not get "all-in-one", "small form factor", or laptop computers

• Network Connection: Wired Gigabit ethernet connection

Minimum Required

• CPU:

  • Minimum Required - Core i5 processor (7th generation or later)

  • Recommended - Core i7 processor (6th generation or later)

• Memory: 12 GB

• Hard drive: HDD (SSD is better but not mandatory)

• Type: Desktop computer. Do not get "all-in-one", "small form factor", or laptop computer

• Network Connection: Wired Gigabit ethernet connection 

Point-of-Sale Server

This must be a dedicated server and not used as a workstation

Software

Minimum and recommended software specifications are listed below:

Operating System

• Recommended: Windows 10 or higher (64-bit)

• Minimum: Windows 10 or higher

• Windows Server 2008 R2

Approved AntiVirus

• Windows Defender

• Malware Bytes

Network Requirements

Minimum and recommended network requirements are listed below:

Internet Speed Requirements

• Minimum Required - Wired connection with minimum upload speed of 5Mbps

• Recommended - Wired connection with minimum upload speed of 10Mbps

• Dedicated WiFi separate from the general WiFi of the store

Network Hardware

• Business class router / firewall with gigabit connectivity.

• Dual band wireless access points (APs) connected via wired backhaul and configured for seamless handoff (Recommended vendors: Ruckus and Cisco Meraki)
