Overview
Technicians can be assigned to Job(s) and/or individual Labor lines within AutoVitals or within Tekmetric. In both scenarios, AutoVitals will push back any Technician assignments made (or changed) in AutoVitals to Tekmetric.
- Default & Default Technician
- Assigning a Technician Per Job
- Assigning a Technician to Labor Lines
Default & Default Technician
Upon creation of a Repair Order (RO), no Technician will be assigned in Tekmetric.
If a Technician is assigned to the RO in Tekmetric, as shown below, then:
-
That Technician will also be assigned to all jobs on the RO in Tekmetric
-
That Technician will become the Default Tech on the RO in AutoVitals
-
That Technician will be assigned to all of the jobs on the RO in AutoVitals which are not already assigned to someone else
Assigning a Technician Per Job (Group)
Technicians can be assigned to Job groups within Tekmetric.
In Tekmetric
-
Select the Assign button on a Job group to select a Technician
-
This will assign the Labor lines on that Job group to the selected Technician
-
Note that the other Job group (below) is still Unassigned
-
- Repeat with any other Job groups to assign Technicians
In AutoVitals
Once the Repair Order has at least one authorized Job in Tekmetric, it will come over to AutoVitals and appear on the Today’s Vehicle Page (TVP) screen. The RO will reflect the same Technician assignments made in Tekmetric:
Assignment Updates Made in Tekmetric
If changes are made to Technician assignments in Tekmetric thereafter, here’s how it works:
If a Technician assigned to the Job group is changed, it will also be changed in AutoVitals. This means the associated Labor lines with that Job group will also be updated.

Assignment Updates Made in Tekmetric
Once an RO has been sent to AutoVitals, meaning at least one Job has been authorized, any Technician assignment changes made to individual Labor lines will not be updated in AutoVitals unless other attributes of the RO are also updated.
-
⚠️ If the only update made in Tekmetric is changing a Technician associated with an individual Labor line, the update will not reflect in AutoVitals.
-
If any of the following actions are taken in Tekmetric in addition to a change to a Labor line assignment, the change will reflect in AutoVitals:
-
Change to the Technician on the Job group the Labor line(s) is part of (see above)
-
Change to Hour on any Labor lines within the same Job group the new assignment is associated with
-
Addition of any new Job(s) to the Job group
-
Addition of any new Part(s) to the Job group
-
Any time a new Job is added to the RO and authorized
